ganesh - © calcagne/herkert/kuzik/lafond/o'connor [ listen ]
Ganesh was written about an elephant that kept sneaking into my dreams.  In the dreams he would roll me with his trunk, thru the waves of time.  It was a very joyful and familial feeling... as if I were his newborn son.  I later found out about the hindu god, Ganesh, who has an elephants head on a mans body... he travels on a mouse.  Riding on a mouse represents the loss of one's ego... (still working on that one).... Ganesh is also the god of joy, widsom and the remover of obstacles.  Soon after we wrote this ode to Ganesh, we were given the opportunity to record at Trey's Barn.  When we got there, the door handles were large brass elephant heads.  Ganesh was picked up by Sirius Radio and enjoyed national, near daily airplay for a good three years.  Hoy!

mighty high - © calcagne/nelson [ listen ]
From the debut CD... back when Stevo was singing with us.  This was another tune that brought us some good luck.  Our old sax player, Snowman was staying over my house after a late night rehearsal.  We were kibitzing in my kitchen when he asked, (in his youthful high pitched voice)... "Dai, do you think we'll every have any success on MTV?"... I reply.. "Nah Snow, we're a well rooted art-rock band, they would never be interested in us."  Snow sighed, we toasted and went to bed.  The next morning my home phone is ringing with  "Burbank" on the caller ID.  I pick it up, guess who it is.... yep, MTV... out of the freakin' blue.  We have never solicited, reached out, called or thought about them.  Turns out, they heard Mighty High on the Billboard Talent Net chart and decided they wanted to license our entire debut for soundtrack music.  Less than 8 hours after Snowman said his classic line, they call my home phone offering me a deal.  Pretty funny stuff.  We signed, they ended up using four tunes, that still get international television airtime.

the gordon apparition - © carini/calcagne/herkert/kuzik/lafond [ listen ]

Swamp was just starting to pack up when Carini, said...
"You can't pack up, play one more... just improvise for a few and let me record it."

So we did.... reluctantly at first, but then it got going as it usually does.
When we ended, Mike Gordon was standing in front of the band.
"I was listening from the basement and I had to come up and say hello... ".
